The Enneagram is an ancient personality typing system that has recently become wildly popular, thanks to some well-received books, podcasts, and social media accounts.
The Enneagram is unlike other personality theories in that you only identify with one dominant type. Your typing is not based on your behavior, or how you act, but on your motivations, or why you act. Thus the enneagram vividly answers the question, “Why do I do the things I do?”.
You may have taken a few personality tests before, like Myers-Briggs, DISC, or StrengthsFinder. Unlike other systems, taking a test is not the best way to find your enneagram type, because tests cannot accurately pick up on our internal motivations. Instead, reading and learning about all of the types, as well as working with an enneagram expert, is the best way to figure out your type.
How can the enneagram help you? Knowing your type allows you to understand yourself better. You will begin to understand your motivations, why you interpret things the way you do, and how you relate to others in your life. With the help of a professional enneagram coach, you can improve your relationships with others, meet your professional goals, and reach your full potential.
After years of studying the enneagram and teaching it to my college students, I am excited to offer enneagram coaching services as a part of my therapy practice. With me as your partner, we can identify your type and explore your personal experience. Using my background as a licensed psychologist, I will help you identify roadblocks to your personal goals and help you chart a clear pathway to growth. I can also speak to your group and give a training on the enneagram.
