5 Purity Culture Myths

In the fall, I entered CBE’s (Christians for Biblical Equality) annual writing contest. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but until then had been holding myself back from sharing my writing with anyone. Inspired by Brene Brown to “dare greatly” and “enter the arena”, I submitted an article based on a book I’ve been working on for the last two years. My book is about purity culture, which is the evangelical Christian movement to teach abstinence until marriage. You can learn more about my work on my book here!

Today my article “5 Purity Culture Myths and Why They Are False Promises”, was finally published on CBE’s website! I am excited and a little nervous to share my writing and my beliefs with the world. But I know there are others like me who grew up in purity culture and found its messages to be false promises that created shame around sexuality.

I hope you’ll read my article, leave your thoughts and comments, and share it with someone who might relate to it.
